History of The First Photograph and Advances In Photography
What is photography? What do we gain from photography? But the real question how did photography all start?
It all started at around 1826 when Joseph Nicephore Niepce officially took the first permanent photography from nature. He started off experimenting with lithographic printmaking, which led to him inventing a new form of photography called heliography. Heliography is a process in which you take powdered bitumen of Judea with water and that created a thick substance. Then what Joseph did was he painted it onto a flat pewter plate, after that he used heat to dry the substance on the plate. Once that was done he placed it inside a camera that was facing outside from upstairs in his house. It was exposed to light for about 8 hours. Then voila! He soaked it in oil and white petroleum and let it dry. He had just created the first permanent photograph.
So now we know how the first photograph was made, but how does it affect us now in the 21st century? Before photography, we couldn’t capture moments with just a click of a button. We went from having to use Joseph’s way of capturing images, to being able to take pictures on our phones. What are now called digital images, taken by digital cameras, can be printed, stored, edited, and copied. If we take a look at the first camera ever invented, to one of the newest out, we can just see the difference just by looking at them! Aside from the style changing, we now have options to change shutter speeds, light balance, change the field of view and so much more! I think that without photography the world would defiantly be a different place.
