Term 3 Reflection
Over the year I’m gad to say I have learned a lot. Since the beginning of the year I have learned how to take good portraits of others, as well as thinking about different angles and ways to make pictures better. My view on photography has not changed much since the start of this year since I enjoyed photography when I first started and I still enjoy it now. What I have discovered I do like more though is environmental portraits. I enjoy looking and taking photos of others that tell a story. I feel most confident about how much I think I have improved this year in photography and Photoshop skills. I have learned a variety of different skills and techniques used to create interesting and unique photos. I have learned how to alter colors, the saturation, and the brightness. In addition to this, I have learned to work with the curves of a picture using Photoshop. My favorite skill that I have learned is my knowledge of Photoshop, which has helped with many photos I have taken in and out of this photography class.

Social Justice
In these two photographs, I was trying to show the gap and difference between the rich and poor. While a lot of children now in the 21st century have the luxury of iPods, game systems, tablets, and can afford proper health equipment such as glasses, there are children around the world who aren't nearly as lucky. Our society today takes a lot of what we have for granted and while we have money to spoil our kids why not help others who aren't as lucky as us.

Artist Statement/Manifesto
In the image I have created, It shows a girl on a puppet string. Around her, one of the biggest influential things known to mankind today, the media. To me this represents how society is now run by media. On the banner the plane carries reads "whoever controls the media, controls the mind". I find this very strong because it is so true. We are all puppets to the media. Media puts all these definitions of "beauty" in our head. It makes us act a certain way, talk a certain way and even judge others in a certain way. The fire is there to show that overall the world is being burned by society. It has taken over.
I started off with finding a background of space, I was quite happy with this one. My Idea was to have a shadow (symbolizing society) carrying myself on a puppet string. Around me are just some more examples of how the media effects us. At the very end, while trying to adjust the lighting, I accidentally made the background black and white, and for some reason prefer this over the original image. If you look closely, you can see the bottom of me begin to dissapear. This was done on purpose to symbolise society winning and getting rid of the person you really want to be. I used my self to present a stock character of the average person today.

My Artist Statement
As a beginner at Photoshop, the creation of my avatar was not simple. The process it took to create my final product was long, but well worth it in the end. Using a self-portrait taken of myself, I manipulated it, deformed it, and created something much more interesting. The first step I took to get started was my eyes. In my opinion this was the most troubling for me. Also, finding the perfect blue I thought would compliment my avatar. This was not an easy task. I took lots of time and effort. This project inspired me to want to try new things and made me much more comfortable with my Photoshop skills.
Starting with my eyes, to be able to lasso around my eyes and put each eye on it’s own layer is simple, but to enlarge them so they match naturally isn’t so easy. After finally enlarging my eyes to how I wanted, I needed to select my pupil from each eye and put them on their own layer. Using the elliptical marquee tool. After enlarging my pupils, I looked at my overall progress so far. I decided it looked pretty funny. From there I needed to start over. Eventually I got the eyes down and felt pretty happy about it, with the help of Ms. P of course. Next, to create more of an avatar like creation, I used a fill layer to insert blue on my portrait then made a layer mask and erased all the sections I didn’t want to be blue. I could change the heaviness of the blue by changing the opacity lower or higher.
Overall, I feel as if I have learned so much about Photoshop! It was so fun to be able to crate an avatar of my face. Looking back at what I had accomplished makes me feels great!
